I love this picture of my husband standing in the water at Still Pond, located off the Sassafras River and the Chesapeake Bay. We had taken an excursion and anchored overnight at this beautiful spot and enjoyed being able to stand in the water.
It’s a very interesting place with a lovely breeze by day and stillness by night! Much stillness, and pretty stuffy sleeping below in the cabin on a hot summer night, unless you have a generator and run your AC!
After our trip, we had posted this picture on Facebook to see what caption our friends might give it, and we got a variety of ideas. Our favorite, however, was Peace Be Still!
We love to think about the story in the Bible when Jesus was asleep in the boat and a fierce storm came up, rocking the boat to and fro, such that the disciples feared that they were going to drown. They woke Jesus saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
But Jesus simply got up and commanded the wind and waves to die down, and they did!!

Jesus Calms the Storm
23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
What storm might you be facing today? Does your life sometimes feel like you are drowning? Drowning in sorrow? Drowning in fear? Drowning in loneliness? Drowning in debt?
Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
