Psalm 23:1-3 “The Lord is MY Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me]. I shall not lack. He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters. He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him-not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake.” AMP
Revelation 7:17 “For the Lamb Who is in the midst of the throne will be their Shepherd, and He will guide them to the springs of the waters of life; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” AMP
Are you aware how desperately sheep need their shepherd? They are totally dependent on the guidance and protection of their shepherd. They really cannot do anything on their own except walk around and graze.
The shepherd does three things for the sheep:
- creates an atmosphere of peace
- resolves friction and conflict
- keeps them free of torment
Jesus is our shepherd. Are you aware of how desperately we need Him?
When we rest in Him, we can live in peace even in the midst of the storms of life. He helps us to resolve conflicts, and He protects us and provides a way for us even in the most difficult situations. Even martyred Christians throughout the ages have found peace, joy and strength in the midst of their situations.
Isaiah 26:3, You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
When troubles come your way, as in this life they will, rest in God’s promises. Psalm 91:1 is our “911” in any emergency we face this side of heaven. “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].” AMP
So, does all this mean we will never have troubles in this life? Absolutely not. We still live in a sinful, fallen world. Until Jesus returns, “in this world we will have tribulation.” BUT, our Shepherd will guide us through and give us Victory over each and every battle.
Have you trusted in Jesus and allowed Him to be YOUR Shepherd? If not, my friend, do it TODAY!! Simply pray this prayer from your heart:
Thank you Lord Jesus for shedding Your blood on the cross in payment for my sins and for offering me the gift of eternal life with You. I am truly sorry for and repent of my sins. I turn from them and open my heart and invite You into my life. I commit to follow you the rest of my days. By faith I receive the gift you provided for me, and I acknowledge You as my Lord and Savior. Amen
